I started getting this android is starting....optimizing apps 1 of 1. after reading this thread, i found the problem to be zedge. i've used this app for about 6 years, then a recent forced update started causing the error, making my phone take about 15 minutes to boot. i uninstalled zedge and got rid of the problem.. I just had the same exact issue on the same exact phone. after doing some digging it seems like this happens when android has a problem optimizing one or more apps, so it stubbornly retries all of them. so i uninstalled apps one-by-one and rebooted, and the problem went away after uninstalling supersu.. My nexus 7 2012 wifi model is driving me nuts. every reboot keeps going through the same long startup "android is starting" "optimizing app 74 of 98" etc takes ages to boot..
